I’ve been excited to share Vanja and Omar’s epic wedding at the Four Seasons in Hampshire for some time now but have been a little bit backlogged with this summers weddings so am only just catching up now. When Vanja got in touch originally, only a few weeks before their wedding, she told me what a great relief it was that she had finally found the photographer that she’d been searching for. I was truly honoured that she thought this but at the back of my mind I was definitely thinking – ‘no pressure then!’

It turned out that Vanja and Omar live in Qatar though they had both attended University in the UK inspiring their decision to hold their wedding at the Four Seasons Hampshire. During our Skype chat it transpired that they were childhood sweethearts and had met at the International School they attended in the Middle East. Many of their friend who are now spread far and wide across the globe flew in to help them celebrate which I have to say they did in some style!

With so many languages, other than English, being spoken I realised how much I rely on being able to pick up on bits of people’s conversations in order to anticipate their reaction. For much of the day I had to adapt and gauge peoples body language and facial expressions and before long it was as if I understood what they were saying – even though I didn’t!

As well as the documentary coverage Vanja was keen to get some great portraits so we had several short sessions throughout the day and I think we finally nailed it when, towards the end of the evening, the venue introduced their ‘Field of Flames’ (100s of candles spread across the lawn). I’m not sure what it is but when I have a camera in my hand I don’t see danger quite the same way and so despite the protestations of the Four Seasons staff, who probably weren’t insured against burning photographers, I waded into the field of flames to get the shots (probably not quite as dramatic as it sounds!)

It was, as alluded to, an epic day, and Vanja and Omar were indeed and epic couple, however rather than describe it all in writing hopefully the pictures will do their job tell the story for me.
