This was my second visit to Tunnels Beaches this summer and one I’d been looking forward to since meeting Clare and Lee in my studio in Woolacombe nearly a year beforehand. Though Clare and Lee live in Eastbourne they had not been able to find anywhere there where they could have a beachside wedding. After trawling the internet Clare came across Tunnels Beaches and immediately knew it was where she’d dreamed of getting married.
On the morning of the wedding I joined Clare at Westwood Bed and Breakfast, just up the hill from Tunnels, where she was getting ready with her Mum, her two bridesmaids and her and Lee’s two young daughters, Amelia and Imogen who were flower girls for the day. I loved photographing Clare playing with Amelia and Imogen as she had her hair and make-up done, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a bride look so relaxed on the morning of her wedding.
It was Clare’s mum’s honour to walk her up the aisle and give her away which was an emotional moment before they made their vows to one another overlooking the sea. Amelia and Imogen delivered the rings and the happy couple walked back up the aisle to an explosion of confetti.
Once again I was blessed with some beautiful evening light to shoot some portraits with Claire and Lee on the beach. With all the tourists having to leave the beach by 5pm it’s definitely a pretty special experience having your own private beach to shoot sunset portraits on.
A bit earlier in the day during their epic speech, Lee’s best men had explored his propensity for removing his clothes in public, something probably not becoming of the newly qualified police officer that he is. They illustrated this with several large photos that they held aloft drawing fits of laughter from all the guests. This was admittedly very funny but I don’t think Lee would thank me for sharing them and to be honest they probably aren’t fit for public consumption!
In fact, it seemed, male nudity is a common theme amongst Lee and his Groomsmen, all of whom were clad in kilts for the day. My final shot from the day shows one of Lee’s ushers wearing a pair of another ushers boxer shorts on his head after they’d shared a fairly raunchy dance off together. It definitely felt like a good one to leave on!
Thank you Lee and Clare for being such great clients, your wedding was a brilliant fun to photograph.
