This was one of my most eagerly anticipated weddings of the year. Carly is one of my wife Charlotte’s oldest friends which meant she was on hair and bridesmaid duty for this one. Over the last few years we’ve spent some incredible times with Carly and Sam and their friends and I knew that this was going to be one epic wedding to photograph – I was not mistaken!

My day began with the girls at the Woolacombe Bay hotel intersected by a quick jog across the village to photograph Sam and the boys getting into their suits before another jog back to the hotel to document Carly getting into the dress. Once Carly was ready I joined Sam and all the guests at the Ship Aground Pub in Morthoe. They had planned for their blessing to be given by Sam’s father on the beautiful Morte Point just a short walk from the pub. Sam is ex-army and their ‘stealth’ ceremony had been meticulously organised like a military operation, the only thing missing was a wet weather plan which on this beautifully sunny day in July fortunately wasn’t called into question. The ceremony was one of the most touching I’ve been fortunate enough to witness held in one of the most stunning locations you could imagine.

Following the ceremony all the guests were transported by bus to Carly’s parent’s house where over the past year Carly and Sam had painstakingly remodelled the grounds and created an incredible venue for their wedding reception. There were countless highlights from their day including some hilarious speeches, Carly and Sam’s first dance to Saturday Night Fever and one of the best wedding bands I have ever seen. Perhaps the pinnacle of an epic party happened when the band played ‘Mr Brightside’ by the Killers and everyone just went nuts – Carly and Sam were hoisted into the air and for a moment it felt like we were at a rock concert rather than a wedding.

My iPhone informed me that by end of the wedding I had walked over 22km which might explain why I was somewhat shattered the following day and may also give you a little insight into why I only shoot a limited amount of weddings a year!

Here are some of my favourite photos from one of my favourite weddings of the year featuring some of my favourite people!
